Photographing Heroes

This past weekend I had the privilege of photographing the South Oldham Firedepartment. My director friend Mike Vance (http://themikevance.com/) was shooting a commercial for the local fire department and asked if I wanted to come along to capture behind the scenes shots and production stills of the shoot.

We shot some still and video portraits both in the fire station and on the "crash" location. The whole idea behind the commercial was to highlight the volunteer fighters and that anyone can volunteer as a firefighter.

The second location was a staged crash site on a closed off road. We had them spray some water in the air to mimic rain, and combined with the beautiful Kentucky sunset we got some really awesome images!

Here is a slideshow of my picks from the shoot.

Gear:

The Springtime Carnivore

If you didn't know, my wife and I are living in Los Angeles for the next few weeks. While I was here I thought it would be great to expand my creative space project out to the west coast. My first contact was Greta Morgan (aka The Springtime Carnivore). I discovered her after scouring the internet for unique music acts in and around LA. I loved the music Greta was putting out so I reached out to her about being in my Creative Space project. She agreed and we setup a date for me to come and get some environmental style photographs in here Studio.

The setup was super basic. One camera, one lens, one light. All was tethered into Capture One Pro with Tether Tools cables. The gear used was:

All the images were processed and color graded in Capture One Pro, using a combination of their new preset styles and my own creative edit adjustments.

Everything is linked via my Amazon affiliate links, if you decide to buy from amazon please use my links! Everything I own has a purpose. I don't own 15 lenses because these are the only ones I need for my style of shooting. I always will have a 50mm lens (read about why here) and something a little wider, like a 35mm. When the job calls for it I rent whatever is needed. Currently toying with the idea of switching to a Sony A7RII or Fuji X-T2 for the addition of 4K video.
